SUMMARY

This article lists info about Error (Code 10) that Device Manager may report and provides resolutions. To view the error codes, follow these steps:

1. Click Start, click Run, and in the Open box, type control panel.
2. In Control Panel, double-click System, click the Hardware tab, and then click Device Manager.
3. Double-click a device type. For example, double-click Modems to see the devices in that category.
4. Double-click a device to view its properties. If an error code has been generated, the code appears in the Device Status box that is on the General tab.

Error (Code 10)

If the device has a FailReasonString value in its hardware key, that string appears as the error message. The driver or enumerator puts this registry string value there. If there is no FailReasonString in the hardware key, you receive the following error message: This device cannot start. (Code 10)

Resolution

This is a common error message with some devices and usually there is a relatively simple resolution. We recommend downloading RegCure Registry Cleaner immediately and running a scan. Fix the issues found and in most cases your issue will be resolved with no other necessary action.
